ATC P1 Matching Linn

Hi All, Your opinions would be welcome on this setup, I run a pair of ATC SCM 40 Passive speakers with the HF connected to my Linn Majik DSM 3 with the MF and BF connected to my Linn Majik 4100 so Tri Amp setup, however I found the 50 watt to 8ohs a bit light on the MF and BF so I have auditioned a few amplifiers and decided to order a ATC P1 which I will run the BF and MF linked or jumper cabled but I would still like to use the DSM 3 to power the HF, what is your opinions on the setup or would there be a better way of connecting up the system, I use the DSM 3 for Hi Res streaming but also use a Roksan k3 CD player, any suggestions would be welcome.

Have you tried using just the DSM 3 to drive your SCM 40 speakers? Just interested.

The Linn Majik 4100 should be enough for the MF and BF at normal listening levels. But I'm always wary of multi channel powers amps. After all, no matter how many channels or how much 'wattage' is attributed to each channel, they all rely on the one power supply.

If you need more power, and want to keep the versatility of the DSM 3, I can only agree with your plan to buy an ATC P1. Connected as you suggest should work fine.

Hi Bulldog, thanks for the reply, I haven't tried the DSM 3 on its own as it is the same amplifier as the Majik 4100 but 2 channels, I did demo at home a Linn Akurate and the extra power gave a much better sound all round but not 6k worth, I also demo'ed the ATC P1 for a while and it sounded similar to the Akurate, I agree with you on the supply with multi channels, so I'm hoping the P1 combined with the DSM 3 will get the best from these fantastic SCM 40's !
