  • Finally! ATC SCM50 active v SCM50 driven by big Naim - a review

As a reviewer for over 20 years for titles like Hi-Fi News, Hi-Fi Choice, T3 and now www.soundstageultra.com this is a comparison I know I have wanted to do of my favourite loudspeaker brand. I hope some of you on here find it an interesting and informative read... https://www.soundstageultra.com/inde...ve-loudspeaker

Jonathon, that was probably the best review I've ever had the pleasure of reading. There was a perfect balance between subjectivity and objectivity. I agree with the comments about Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and Tusk albums. The sound quality of both albums is superlative and neither album can be fully appreciated until they're played on ATC active loudspeakers. While my SCM150s sound really good at lower listening levels; they sound stunning when played at higher listening levels, becoming as one with the room. Just like giant headphones. While their passives are superb, ATC's actives are killer loud speakers and they are a bargain for the sound quality on offer.

      Bulldog,

Many many thanks for your most appreciative comment regarding the review, I must say it's always a pleasure to hear that people enjoy my writing and it's particularly nice when people take the trouble to respond because otherwise it can feel like you are writing in a vacuum!

Having experienced the 50's your 150's must sound incredible! If like me you enjoy those classic 70's Fleetwood Mac albums please do try to track down a copy of the Ken Caillat books on the making of Rumours and Tusk - they're a great read and have given me a new level of appreciation for the albums.

Enjoy the music in the meantime and thank-you,

      Jonathan

I never thought of it like that. I guess it's like a Las Vegas entertainer trying to engage a 'tough crowd'. It's all about knowing your audience, giving them what you think they want, and hopefully getting a positive response from them. If they don't like you, all you get is... silence.
