Looking to buy the ATC SM11 speakers

I'm looking to replace my old speakers with the ATC SCM11 speakers and wanted to ask if anyone else had experience with these and if you could provide some feedback.

looking at pairing these with the ATC CA2 Pre Amplifier.

That's a great start, you should be very happy. Problem I found is that I went from the 11s to the 19s to the 40s!

Yes no doubt as the old forum users come back on you will find many moved up the ATC range.

11's are fantastic I use a pair but Active 40's are just unbelievable value really the best bargain in the ATC range in my opinion
plus if you have a streamer source you often can drive them directly, thus saving the cost of a preamp.😀

Yes I agree I also use other ATC's in different systems, they are the best speakers in the world (as I am sure you would expect to hear on this forum) keep them up to date
my 100's have been updated twice now, last time for the new tweeters with full service etc. The top of the range tweeter is just superb, all the detail but incredibly sweet at the same time.

Go active 40's if you can, way better than the passives, had 7's still use 11's (passive) Active 40 really bargain of the range in my view. you save money on not needing a chunky power amp.

Good to know! My amp is not chunky though, looks rather like a bathroom scale (Devialet) !

So would it be possible to go straight from a DAC with a good volume control to the 40s active?

yep I do that using an Auralic Vega G2, Used an Oppo Sonica also and a PS audio DSD all dac streamers with Vol

Super!!! I was thinking of the Benchmark DAC3. But good to know that such minimalist setup works. Can‘t be simpler than that.

Have a look at the MiniDSP SHD as well. It includes Dirac room correction, Roon Ready and Airplay through the built-in Volumio streamer.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have a proper Roon streaming solution (SonicTransporter), but the MiniDSPs do look interesting!

Just checking that you’re aware you’ll also need a power amplifier? The CA2 preamp can be used directly with the Active models, however.

If you buy new, you should be able to audition demo models at home, to be certain they’re suitable. If buying carefully used, you should be able to resell with little loss here in the UK.
