  • Experience in overhauling amp-packs wanted

Hello, is here anyone who can tell me about experience in overhauling the amp-packs.
    My questions are:
When did you make this(age of the amp-packs)?
Do you bring the whole speaker away or only the amp-packs?
Who restored the packs, the company or a dealer?
    Which was the price?
How would you rate the restoration afterwards?
    Thank you, Rüdiger

    Hi Rudiger,

I've had several speakers overhauled by ATC at the factory in the last couple of years. As an example, my 100As are from 1996, they went into ATC in 2018. My plan was to upgrade to current spec so I had drive unit changes as well as the amp packs being overhauled.

I took the speakers to ATC but I am sure if I just wanted the amp packs serviced, they would have accepted them independently.

Labour is around £30 per hour and from what I can tell, amplifier parts are cheap. My big costs went on drive units (for example 100 SL bass 12" drive units were £500 each).

Work is of a high standard. I don't feel that anything was rushed. And ATC have a busy service department!

Your best bet in my view is to contact Pete Guppy at ATC direct if you want a more specific quote. I never used a dealer to help, ATC are set up to help direct with servicing.

You can contact Pete by going to the customer services section on the main ATC Hi FI website - Factory Service & Repair.

Thank you very much for your answer.
My problem is that I‘m living in Germany, so it is a little bit difficult to bring the amp-pack to the company. In Germany are 2 sales, SEA+ATR. For me SEA seems more competent but they are only allowed to service the professional models.

Hi Rüdiger, My amp packs went back to ATC headquarters for a full service in 2015. They needed recapping and a few minor parts changing. Pete Guppy, who was a super technician at ATC HQ, from what I know, is not based at the factory nowadays, I think he travels more. Which might be to your advantage, if he comes your way and is able to do servicing on an appointment basis. But you should phone ATC and ask for their service dept who can advic=se you about the best arrangements. If you feel your drive units are fine, like mine were, it might be fine to just send the amps in. ATC can sell you a shipping crate which you can use, and after the amps have been delivered back to you, they will buy the crates back off you. They can also, I understand, arrange shipping. If not, then I suggest you use UPS. I use them all the time for shipping all over the world. You could even have a shipping crate made locally for the amps, perhaps. Cost wise, I would allow around £400-£500 for the full service and recapping. I had no delivery costs as I delivered and collected them myself.
