  • Atc scm100 asl classic

My previous setup included SCM50 ASL speakers. I recently upgraded to SCM100 ASL classic speakers. The preamp is a RME ADI-2 DAC with a Rega Planar 3 (Denon DL-103 cartridge) connected via toslink and a Sony UBP-X700 UHD Blu-Ray player connected via digital coaxial cable. The DAC is connected to the SCM100 speakers via balanced pro audio cables.

Good as the SCM50s were, the SCM100s are a significant upgrade - with greater dynamics and more extended bass, They load the room better and cast a very wide sound-stage. I hope you enjoy the pics:

Sorry - couldn't upload images via imgur - I will try another day

    Here you go...

Very nice, looks like a great space to let the speakers breathe!

                Hi,

I tried sharing the images in one post and it went nuts. After considerable experimentation, I managed to post the images separately - not ideal, I know.

                Regards,

Very nice speaker. Do you hear a difference between the old(Seas)and the new(ATC)tweeter?

Yes. The new tweeter is more refined and I can't hear that slight 'zing' the older one had when playing high energy tracks.

I like the bright look of the veneer. What kind of wood is it?
Do you drive them without the front covers?

I drive with front covers, sometimes I remove the front covers but after a short time I will put them back.

The veneer is pippy oak. In the flesh it's not bright at all. For some reason they appear much brighter when photographed.

I listen with the covers on. I only removed them for the photographs.

That’s right, it looks better without front covers but the sound is better with. I thought about a frame that makes the edges disappear but leaves the view of the chassis open. So far I haven’t really had the drive to take care of it.

                              My taste is complete different!
I don't like to look at the units.
It focus my view and my attention.
What i like most at ATC speakers is their airy sound and that the sound don't "glue" at the speakers.
Without covers my senses will bring the sound back to the speakers because of the attaction of the look.
It may look more imposant without the covers but i like the plain, decent look with them.
But that is just my point of view! 😁

                                He Bulldog,

these ATC 100 with the stands down below are looking so good. I like these modells most in the ATC Range. 👍

Thanks, SolarMusic. I've always liked the way ATC speakers looked on stands. I reckon the best looking classic speaker is actually my old SCM50 classics. They look so balanced. As you go larger in the classic range, they can look a little intimidating in smaller rooms. I was a bit worried about spending so much money on teh SCM100s. But when you factor in the fantastic amplifier packs, ATC active speakers are somewhat of a bargain.

That’s interesting, because in your picture the tweeter has three fastenings, like my SCM40, whereas ATCs website pictures show the newer S tweeter with four fastenings. What age are yours?

The pippy veneer is fabulous, I must agree!

My speakers were manufactured early this year. The newer 'S' spec has three fastenings.

The pippy oak veneer is amazing. I was going to get cherry, but it darkens considerably when exposed to light, and my room is quite sunny at times.

I like your veneer very much.😍
My speakers are in cherry but in comparison they look boring.
