  • SCM40A with sub and bass traps

I hesitate to say endgame setup, but that's how I feel at the moment.
    • SCM40A speakers
    • SVS SB12-NDS 12" subwoofer
    • MiniDSP SHD controller/streamer/DAC
    • Dirac Live 3.0 room correction
    • IsoAcoustics ISO-pucks feet for speakers and sub
    • 2x GIK Acoustics membrane bass traps and broadband absorbers
    • 12x Ecophon Focus 120x120 cm cloud absorbers
    • Front baffle wool felt cut-out to stop edge diffraction

Super looking system and room! I never imagined edge diffraction was an issue given the speaker units are flush mounted. Did you audition with and without your wool extras, and what difference did you hear?

I did audition both and thought I heard a little less ripple in the mid/treble. But I am hesitant about this effect, until I have time to measure it.

Edge diffraction will still happen off the baffle edges, even with flush mounted drivers. The question is whether it’s audible.

                  Looks super!

How much correction are you using with Dirac? Have you targeted a certain frequency range?

I correct only the bass up to about 180 Hz. I also have a preset with full range correction where I track the target curve along the measured response from 20 Hz to 20 kHz in order to get full band time correction. But I don't really hear any improvement here, so I mainly just use the bass correction preset. I took some time first to time-align the subwoofer, so that the system plays in phase around the crossover frequency at 60 Hz. This gave the best result running Dirac afterwards. I think this is one of the main benefits of the SHD, that you can time-delay each channel and really get the sub-integration perfect (and do som basic EQ if you want) before running Dirac.

It reads like you have everything well dialled in! Many happy hours of listening now I hope!
