  • Which camera manufacturer is good to go with?

I've been looking to buy a camera for a little while now, to mainly get into landscape and event photography.
It seems the photography industry has changed massively over the past couple of years with the adaption of mirrorless technology and moving away from good old DSLR cameras.

So my question is which manufacturer is good to buy for a pro consumer?

Hopefully someone can point main the right direction 😊

        Hi Aretos

First congratulations on wanting to get into the whole photography game.
It's tough, but with dedication, you can go far.

I see you want to get into event and landscape photography.

Do you have a budget that you are working towards as I can recommend camera setups from a few thousand going up to 10/12 thousand?

Also let me know if you have any preferred brands such as Canon, Nikon, or Sony?

Aretos I would start with the following

1: Sony A7iii x 2 as you would always need a backup camera should one of your bodies die on a shoot.
            https://www.e-infin.com/uk/item/3555...ra_(body_only)

2: Tamron 17-28mm lens, this will help you with the wide shots in events.
            https://www.e-infin.com/uk/item/3960...e_mount_(a046)

3: Tamron 28-75mm lens, known as a solid all-rounder lens.
            https://www.e-infin.com/uk/item/3593...e_mount_(a036)

4: Tamron 70-180mm Zoom lens, great for portrait lens as well a lens for taking shots from afar.
            https://www.e-infin.com/uk/item/4134...e_mount_(a056)

5: Sony 85mm, F1.8 lens, nice and sharpe, another great portrait lens.
            https://www.e-infin.com/uk/item/3266...ens_(sel85f18)

As a starting I think this is a solid setup, in time you can add the more expensive Sony G master lens's, although I don't think the additional cost really warrants it.

Hope this helps and good luck, I have sent you a private message with some links to my work! Hope this gives you some inspiration

There are so many good cameras, I am no expert but maybe to help you decide what type of camera you will need what will you be using for, how large do you want your pictures (different quality pics between DSLR and Bridge Cameras and Compact Cameras). In order to cover all situations will you be prepared to carry spare lenses for your DSLR camera or do you want a camera which can produce similar quality but has one zoom lense. In regard to your budget you have a wide selection but maybe the above will help you choose the type of camera.

DSLR's are pretty much getting phased out now with mirrorless cameras, bridge cameras wouldn't cut it as Aretos is looking to get into the photography game on a professional based basis.

Sony have been mirrorless from day 1, Nikon brought out there first version last year which was lacking and same with Canon.

Canon and Nikon have released their last DSLR pro range then everything will be fully mirrorless.

Invest in mirrorless, the market is moving fully that way.

Thanks Gandalf for your feedback but kingabs really know his stuff, you should see his stuff, his work is probably in the top 5% of wedding photographers hands down!

But i have to agree mirrorless is the way now.

Got my stuff coming next week, cant wait to get going.

Kingabs has kindly offered a 121 course in person so happy days.

If you want to try a full frame DSLR camera - consider the Nikon D610. Apparently Nikon are phasing them out and you may get a good deal. Some retailers may offer a lens kit with the camera body for a good price.

Nikon D610 is a little over 6-year-old technology, and no point buying DSLR only if you end up upgrading and have to swap out all your lenses again as new lens mounts are now the new standard.

Don't waste time and money on DSLR tech, just go mirrorless.

I know Aretos has bought the Sony mirrorless line up which I recommended.

Hi, I've used Nikon DSLR's for years, then I decided to lighten the load and switched to a Fujifilm XT2 with 3 lenses to cover my needs, the kit is so well made and the lenses are metal and glass with real aperture controls, even better Fujifilm will loan you a camera and lens to test for 48 hours free check this link https://fujifilm-x.com/en-gb/news/2020/1005_30678/

Thank you for your recommendations on choosing cameras. I considered a non-standard option - to purchase a drone like DJI to be able to take cool photos and videos, from a bird's eye view
